Flailing to Prepare

preparing to fail …
i was on a roll with this idea i had for a yearly postcard art show that me and my mom have been entering for the last few years. i thought i’d be smart and set up the next stage of the work … last friday ….
maybe i’ll get it done before this friday …

An Icon for St. Boswell

I’ve actually met a surprising number of gay men who are also very devoted catholics … i don’t get it but, hey you do you. However, it does mean i get to talk about my family’s connection to radical and queer theology. On my Dad’s side there is no shortage of ministers, pastors, deacons, and more; and one Yale theological scholar.
Unfortunately i only found out i was related to John Boswell when i went to his funeral when i was barely 12. I didn’t even understand his importance until long after i came out at 18.

and finally this year i actually read one of his books.
One of the gay catholics I met was the wonderful man i stayed with in Christchurch on my recent NZ-return trip. I met him over the New Year’s summer camp at a gay farm in Golden Bay … and was able to stay with him and get a local’s eye tour of Christchurch (including a stop at his church, which he practically runs as a very high functioning gay). I mentioned my relation but he hadn’t heard of him, so when i got home i grabbed myself copies of two of his books (we have a box of “family” books in the attic archive). took longer to get to the first one, but it was a fascinating read! and now it’s on it’s way down to New Zealand … and accompanying it this collage icon of the man himself …

Pumpkin!!

went to our local Pumpkin Fest down by the river … and here’s what i did with it …

do you like my old boot planters?

i can’t tell if it looks spookier with the bright back lighting or with just the orange lights on …

i’ve been using the to-do post it notes to make little canvases for doodles …

Fits & Starts ...

i was running pretty strong there for a few days.
had plenty of things i could have posted but i’m still trying to work this into my routine … in addition to just generally being a bit of a disorganized mess … i’m not all that good at website stuff.
(i was one of the kids who grew up as the internet did … but i never got all that into the html and code and practical stuff … )

this platform does make it functional enough for me to make this … but someday i’d love to get someone who actually knows what they are doing to look at it …

it accidently became a tradition to make these fancy apple roses whenever i’m unemployed … this batch turned out pretty good!

lots more free time to add to my weekly planner … it’s the Sloop club’s Pumpkin Fest this weekend.
(and the left eye is the new moon … )
